Celebrating Earth Day 2021

In celebration of Earth Day, GreenCars and Lithia Motors partnered with select high schools across the nation to educate students, parents and faculty on ways to reduce environmental impact.

Thank you to everyone who participated. After tallying all test drives, we're planting 5,000 trees!

Going green

It’s the simple things that add up over time. Making small changes like ditching plastic straws and using reusable water bottles, turning off the lights when not at home and limiting one-time-use plastics will reduce your environmental impact in the long run. Make it a habit to use reusable bags, too!

What we're doing

Planting Trees

GreenCars and Lithia Motors teamed up with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees for qualifying test drives.

Electric cars are reshaping the way people drive. They’re cheaper to refuel, recharge and maintain – but that’s not all. Depending on the electric car you drive, you could eliminate tailpipe emissions altogether.

Try one out and we'll plant a tree.

It's that easy!

How it works

Take a test drive in a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or all-electric vehicle at a participating store between April 22nd and May 5th 2021 and we’ll plant a tree!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our EV test drive event.

We'll be planting 5,000 longleaf and slash pines at the Econfina Creek and Chipola River watersheds in Florida, USA.

History of Earth Day

Every year on April 22nd we celebrate Earth Day – the birth of the modern environmental movement that started in 1970.

Senator Gaylord Nelson, who was inspired by the protests of the 1960s, is the brainchild behind Earth Day that began as a national teach-in on the environment.

April 22nd 2021 marks the 51st Anniversary of Earth Day and is the largest secular observance in the world, celebrated by over a billion people every year. It represents a day of action to change human behavior to create global, national and local policy changes for a cleaner environment for all.

About the Arbor Day Foundation

Founded in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation has grown to become the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees, with more than 1 million members, supporters, and valued partners.

Since its founding, more than 300 million Arbor Day Foundation trees have been planted in neighborhoods, communities, cities, and forests throughout the world. Our vision is to help others understand and use trees as a solution to many of the global issues we face today, including air quality, water quality, climate change, deforestation, poverty, and hunger.

As one of the world’s largest operating conservation foundations, the Arbor Day Foundation, through its members, partners and programs, educates and engages stakeholders and communities across the globe to involve themselves in its mission of planting, nurturing and celebrating trees.
