New Electric Addition to Chevrolet: Silverado EV Truck

Hot on the heels of Ford’s tire-shredding burnout debut of the all-electric F-150 Lighting pickup truck, Chevrolet is jumping on the zero-emission pickup runaway train bandwagon with the new Silverado EV. Chevy confirms that the electrified truck will boast a range of 400 miles between charges.

Built in the same Michigan factory as the General Motors Hummer EV, the new Silverado (we think Chevy should call it the Thunderbolt) will use GM’s Ultium battery packs. Expect the truck to be available in both a work-focused fleet version as well as more luxury-prone retail variants.

Chevy Silverado EV Overview

Like the Hummer EV, the Silverado EV will likely be available with up to three electric motors depending on the trim level. All-wheel drive will be standard. Much like its gasoline-powered pickup, the Silverado EV will include a basic work truck and mid-range LT trims. A higher priced LTZ will kick up the luxury components and a High Country model will offer top of the line comfort and the latest infotainment, safety and driver assist features.

Other details include up to 1,000 horsepower in premium trim with a 200-kWh battery pack and a new four-wheel steering system along with 24-inch wheels. Four-wheel steering will allow you to turn both the front and rear wheels in the opposite direction in order to greatly reduce the truck’s turning radius.

Chevrolet says that the new Silverado was designed as an all-electric vehicle from the ground up. In order to pack in a 400-mile range, the Silverado will stack battery modules within the truck’s frame rails similar to the Hummer EV. Expect the Chevy EV pickup to arrive in showrooms in late 2023 with a MSRP starting around $50,000.
