When entering the premium luxury market, there are many excellent plug-in hybrid vehicles in the sedan, crossover, and SUV departments. What follows is our list of some of the very best available today. Each offers great comfort and luxury with premium materials, astounding technology, and excellent fuel efficiency.

Audi Q5 PHEV

The Audi Q5 PHEV is very much like its gasoline-only powered brother. This version combines sport and utility with luxury in a very winning package. The five-seater four door crossover got a refresh in 2021 offering a roomier and more practical interior. There are six trim levels to choose from and the Premium Plus S variant ($60,740) comes with a 2.0-liter inline four turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive as well as a Bang & Ulufsen stereo and 21-inch wheels. EPA estimated MPG is 26 miles combined.

BMW X5 PHEV

The ultimate driving machine combines a truly luxurious SUV with excellent fuel economy in the X5. It offers stunning performance and impressive comfort. This very sporty crossover is known for its quick acceleration and exciting handling, hugging every corner like a true BMW. The five-seater comes in three trim levels, the most popular of which is the xDrive 45e ($66,695). The plug-in hybrid sports a 3.0-liter inline six turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive. EPA estimated MPG is 20 miles combined.

Jaguar F-Pace PHEV

The F-Pace is both fun to drive and a very practical luxury crossover that stands out in the stable of premium SUV plug-in hybrids. Three powertrains are available starting with the 246-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder P250 engine and topping off with the 395-horsepower supercharged inline-six P400 R ($64,800). Inside you’ll find high quality leather and finishes worthy of the Jaguar marquee as well as the very latest infotainment and driver assist features. EPA estimated MPG is 24 miles combined.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport PHEV

The exceedingly stylish Range Rover Sport can ford streams and climb mountains as well as take you to the ballet in great comfort. The five-seater is available in seven trim levels. Perhaps the most popular is the HSE Silver Edition ($84,350) that includes a 2.0-liter inline four turbocharged engine and four-wheel drive that can whisk you from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. EPA estimated MPG is 19 miles combined.

Lexus NX PHEV

The most moderately priced luxury PHEV in our lineup, the Lexus NX was all-new in 2022 with a more aggressive look, new engine options, and the latest infotainment system. This five-seater subcompact crossover comes in six trim levels. Two hybrid powertrain options include the NX350h’s two electric motors married to a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine for 239 horses. The top-of-the-line NX450h+ ($57,225) takes its 302-hp powertrain from the Toyota RAV4 Prime. EPA estimated MPG is an impressive 36 miles combined.

Porsche Cayenne PHEV

We had to include one of the Porsche plug-ins to our luxury list. The Cayenne is a sports car turned crossover mixing sustainability with performance driving dynamics. There’s even a Turbo S E-Hybrid ($135,900) that offers impressive performance and dual drive hybrid technology for the most powerful engine output in the model range. Its twin turbo V8 engine and electric motor combo shows off the Cayenne PHEV’s sports car DNA with a zero to 60 mph time of 3.9 seconds.  EPA estimated MPG is 17 miles combined.

Volvo S60 Recharge PHEV

The S60 is a stylish and luxurious sedan in the footprint of great European saloon cars. Its handsome interior is lined in rich materials and the PHEV’s 415-horsepower powertrain is the fastest in the S60 line. The five-seater sedan showcases new designs and infotainment software in the 2023 model. Four trim levels include the Inscription ($51,695) which includes a 2.0-liter inline four turbo engine and all-wheel drive. EPA estimated MPG is an impressive 30 miles combined.
