From Hybrid Hero to EV Pioneer
For years now, Toyota has promoted its “multi-pathway” route to sustainable vehicles including fuel efficient gasoline-power, gas/electric hybrids, even hydrogen-powered vehicles. But its first true electric car for mass production was the bZ4X. Now the automaker has revealed a few new surprises at the recent Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo including a wild new Corolla Concept model.
The world’s best-selling car will soon be available to meet customer demands as a gasoline, hybrid, or full electric vehicle. The Corolla moves beyond just being a gas-powered conveyance, staying flexible with its multiple powertrain offerings. The Corolla Concept showed off new architecture allowing it to be available in gas only, hybrid, or all-electric forms. In other words, Toyota is leaving all its options wide open.

Top of Form Bottom of Form
Toyota CEO Koji Sato tells us, “The Corolla has always been a car for everyone. To stay like that, how should the Corolla evolve? The Earth is vast, and the world is diverse. Roads differ, and so do energy realities. Whether it’s a battery EV, plug-in hybrid, mild hybrid, or an internal combustion engine vehicle, whatever the power source, let’s make good-looking cars that everyone will want to drive.”
Proof that the company is embracing electric vehicles can be seen in its updated bZ, the new and larger bZ Woodland, the new C-HR compact, and more models are coming. That said, there’s no doubt that an affordable new Corolla that’s available in a number of different powertrains, could take the world by storm.
The current Corolla is truly a global car, available just about everywhere in multiple forms and power sources, but the new Corolla will check all the boxes. That makes sense at the present moment when electrification is happening at different speeds and levels of acceptance across the globe.

Bold New Look
As you can see from Toyota’s press photos, the new Corolla will come to you with a bold new look and design architecture, similar but sexier than the bZ. The interior offers high tech touchscreens to handle all your infotainment and driver assist needs. A touch pad with buttons helps with gear selection and the passenger side even offers its own screen.
At this point, there’s plenty we still don’t know about this new Corolla, but one thing is certain – the world needs a ground-breaking, affordable new Corolla. Toyota is being wise to offer flexible power systems that meet every possible demand.
