The Biggest Genesis Ever

Genesis is about to redefine electric luxury. Meet the GV90, their biggest, boldest, and most electrifying SUV yet.

When it comes to electric vehicles, the Hyundai Group is chugging along full steam ahead with its all-electric models for the Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands. In fact, the group’s EVs are some of the most impressive available in America, especially in terms of range, efficiency, and charging.

Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, is not only planning to add a full range of EVs to its lineup but is also looking to move more upscale in a big way. Enter the GV90 – Genesis’ hotly anticipated and upcoming new flagship. Although Genesis has not officially released any details about the GV90, much of what’s expected is based on the Genesis Neolun Concept that was shown at the 2024 New York Auto Show.

Here’s what we know so far and what we expect from Genesis’ upcoming electrified GV90.

A New Flagship

The GV90 is expected to bring a new level of luxury beyond Genesis’ already lavish G90 flagship sedan. If the premium appointments and features of the Neolun Concept are an indicator, the GV90 will be Genesis’ largest and most prestigious model among its diverse lineup of gas and electric models. It will not only be an all-electric SUV, it will also serve as a showcase for Genesis’ capability when it comes to EV technology and luxury.

Design | Striking Minimalist Design

Although Genesis has not released any images of the GV90 yet, its exterior styling is likely to be heavily based on the Neolun Concept. The design language is inspired by Korean minimalism like Korea’s iconic moon-shaped porcelain jars. The Neolun’s exterior emphasizes clean and refined lines, what Genesis refers to as “reductive design.”

The front-end design is expected to carry over the Neolun’s two-line LED light strips that form the Genesis signature V-shaped Crest grille and extend through to the front fenders. We expect the front of the GV90 production version to look similar to that of the G90 sedan, minus the functional grille needed for an internal combustion engine. Out back, the signature Genesis two-line lights will continue, as seen in the Neolun Concept. The overall SUV silhouette of the GV90 is expected to be upright with rounded corners and a large window greenhouse.

The most anticipated feature to make it to the GV90 is the Neolun Concept’s pillarless coach doors, a first for a mass production automobile. According to Genesis, they now have the capability to produce B-pillarless coach doors on a production vehicle. Based on spy shots, a standard model will likely be offered with conventional doors. A premium model with pillarless coach doors may also be offered.

The Neolun Concept’s radical dashboard, square steering wheel, and swiveling front seats are not expected to make it to the production GV90. However, we expect to see similar interior elements like the vintage-inspired leather seats and high-end materials throughout the cabin. As Genesis’ new flagship, expect to be pampered with features offered in the G90 sedan, like heated and massaging footrests for rear passengers, an active fragrance diffusing system, and Genesis’ Mood Curator system.

The GV90 will be Genesis’ first full-size SUV. Although the Neolun Concept was shown in a 2-row configuration, we expect a 3rd row to be available.

Powertrain

Unfortunately, at this time nothing is known about the GV90’s powertrain, battery, and range. However, we expect the GV90 to be available in a standard dual motor set up for all-wheel drive (AWD) with no fewer than 600 horsepower on tap. Rear wheel steering and air suspension may be likely options given the size and segment of the GV90.

Genesis is rumored to be introducing its new EV platform with the GV90 known as the Integrated Modular Architecture (IMA) that was announced in 2022. Compared to the current Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that’s used by other EV models like the GV60, the IMA allows for flexible battery sizes, greater motor efficiency, and better integration of the EV powertrain components. It will also allow for 800V architecture for faster DC charging.

With the new IMA platform, the GV90 could accommodate a larger battery, such as the Hyundai Ioniq 9’s 110.3kWh battery, or even larger. Consequently, this could very well provide a range of over 400 miles.

The GV90 will showcase Genesis’ state-of-the-art EV technology. If you're new to electric vehicles, get up to speed quickly with our Electric Vehicle Charging 101 guide.

Pricing

As Genesis’ flagship model, the MSRP is likely to start north of $100,000 and top out around $120,000. This positions the GV90 above the current G90 sedan, becoming Genesis’ most expensive model. It would also put the GV90 above the Cadillac Vistiq ($77,395) but below the Cadillac Escalade IQ ($127,700).

Competition

As an electrified full-size luxury SUV, the GV90 will have little competition when it comes to market. Its closest competitor may be the Cadillac Vistiq and to some extent the Cadillac Escalade IQ. Competitors like the BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQS will compete on price, but may not offer the GV90’s size, versatility, value, and creature comforts.

Launch

Genesis is expected to release more details about the production version of the GV90 before the end of 2025. Production is expected to start at the beginning of 2026.

If you’re in the market for an all-electric large luxury SUV, your options are about to get bigger with the upcoming Genesis GV90. There’s no doubt that Genesis will equip the GV90 with luxury, high quality materials and build quality, the latest tech, and outstanding EV range when it arrives early next year.
