How long do electric cars last?

An electric car can last as long as a comparable gasoline vehicle when it is properly maintained, but there is no single mileage or age that applies to every EV. The traction battery usually loses capacity gradually, while the rest of the vehicle still experiences normal wear to tires, suspension, brakes, electronics, climate-control components, and the body.

Battery condition is an important part of long-term EV value. Several manufacturers provide battery coverage around 8 years or 100,000 miles, and battery lifespan depends on climate, chemistry, thermal management, charging habits, and use. A specific claim such as 5 percent range loss every 100,000 miles is not a reliable universal rule.
