Is it expensive to maintain an electric car?

EVs generally have lower scheduled maintenance costs than comparable gasoline vehicles because they do not need engine oil changes, spark plugs, timing belts, or many other combustion-engine services. A U.S. Department of Energy analysis estimated scheduled maintenance at 6.1 cents per mile for battery-electric vehicles versus 10.1 cents per mile for conventional gasoline vehicles, about 40 percent lower in that model.

That does not mean every EV repair is inexpensive. Tires, suspension, collision repairs, electronics, and out-of-warranty battery or power-electronics work can still be costly. Actual ownership cost depends on the specific vehicle, insurance, local labor rates, and how the car is driven.
