A Concept That Signals Audi’s Next Design Chapter
Back in 2004, a famous actor was seen driving a magnificent future Audi electric car in a film about robots taking over the planet. While the robots were interesting, it was the Audi driven by the protagonist that caught my attention.
The sleek mid-engine Audi RSQ concept two-door in the film was custom designed for the movie to show the world what an autonomous car in the year 2035 might look like. It featured reverse butterfly doors, spheres instead of wheels, and a luminous silver finish. At the time, it was thought of as a future version of the Audi R8.
Now, in 2026, the popular German carmaker has designed and previewed its radical Concept C electric sports car that reminds me a lot of the future car in that robot movie. It is about the same size as a Porsche 911 and will present and entirely new design language for Audi cars to come.
First unveiled in September 2025, think of the Concept C as a “halo” vehicle for an entire new era of Audi car design. The Concept C is a rear-wheel drive 3,726-pound two-seater hardtop/convertible roadster that is expected to share a platform with the upcoming Porsche 718 EV. Audi says the production version will offer a dual-motor, all-wheel drive version as well.
The new racer will bring 500 horsepower and an 800-volt architecture. Audi says it is based on the concept of “radical simplicity”, “technical precision”, and minimalistic luxury. Production models are expected to hit showrooms in 2027.
The two-seater will include a retractable hardtop for convertible fun, and the interior is said to focus on a minimalistic aesthetic, featuring high-quality sustainable materials and a completely retractable infotainment touchscreen. Audi says, “A minimalist design ensures the interior is free from distractions. The subtle integration of technology and tactile controls create an intuitive and emotional experience.”
The new Concept C is seen as a crucial step for Audi to reestablish itself as a leader in automotive design and high performance. As of this writing, the new sports car will not come with a robot… yet.
