General Motors has released its Q2 earnings, announcing the electric vehicle sales have doubled in the second quarter, showing strong growth for Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC. The company sold 46,280 EVs in Q2, up an amazing 111 percent from the same period last year. In fact, GM is poised to take on Tesla here in America.

The incredible sales are led by the Chevy Equinox EV which GM calls “America’s most affordable 315+ range EV.” Base MSRP for the Equinox starts at $34,995. Chevrolet has surpassed Ford and Hyundai to be America’s second-best brand for selling electric vehicles.

In fact, Chevy’s EV sales rose 146 percent in the second quarter of 2025 and 134 percent in the first six months of the year thanks to sales of the Equinox EV as well as its exceptional Blazer EV crossover, and Silverado all-electric pickup truck.

Another winner for GM has been Cadillac with its full line of incredible luxury electric vehicles. These include the new Optiq compact crossover, the Lyric midsize SUV, and the mighty three-row Escalade IQ, offering a staggering 450 miles of range!

GM calls Cadillac the number one luxury EV brand in the U.S.A. and is planning to transition Caddy to an all-electric lineup by 2030. Over 25 percent of Cadillac’s sales in Q2 were EVs.

Meanwhile, GMC EV sales are driven by the Hummer and Sierra EV truck sales which are up 134 percent. Adding all its EV sales together, General Motors reports Q2 sales are up 111 percent year over year, taking 16 percent of the total U.S. EV market.

GM Q2 2025 EV Highlights

  • 111% Sales Increase: GM’s EV sales double in Q2 year-over-year
  • Chevrolet Leads: Equinox EV boosts Chevy’s EV sales by 146%
  • Cadillac Success: Luxury EV sales surpass 25% of total Q2 Cadillac sales
  • GMC Strength: Sierra and Hummer EV sales jump 134%
  • Future-Focused: GM expands LFP battery production with LG Energy in Tennessee

Naming the North Star

GM’s CEO Mary Barra has said, “Despite slower EV industry growth, we believe the long-term future is profitable electric vehicle production, and this continues to be our north star.”

General Motors beat estimates by Wall Street, posting $47.1 billion in 2025 Q2 revenue. But GM started that Trump’s trade tariffs had a 1.1 billion net impact on the second quarter and expects an even greater impact in the third quarter. The company plans to mitigate 30 percent of tariff impact by making manufacturing adjustments and consistent pricing.

GM announced it will expand its partnership with LG Energy Solution to create lower cost LFP batteries for EVs at its plant in Tennessee. The automaker is planning a next generation ultra-affordable EV to be built in its Kansas facility and will also start selling a new Chevy Bolt EV with better range and faster charging, later this year.
