A Troy dealership brought public fast charging on site, with placement designed to help customers and keep EV test drives ready without the usual scramble.

In early January, Suburban Buick GMC of Troy opened its own185 kWh public charging stations through Future Energy. Rather than placing the chargers in a back lot, the dealership took a more strategic approach, considering how the installation could support not only its customers, but also neighboring dealerships throughout the area. This forward-thinking placement reflects a broader commitment to accessibility and operational efficiency as electric vehicle adoption continues to grow.

Dane Tocco, General Manager, evaluated both anticipated public usage and the time dealerships require to maintain adequate charge levels for vehicle test drives an operational reality that is often overlooked, yet creates a significant logistical burden for dealerships nationwide. The time required to charge vehicles can directly influence staffing needs, scheduling, and overall showroom efficiency. “Providing supercharging doesn’t just benefit our customers,” Dane noted, “it improves the experience and operational flow across all of our sister stores.”

By investing in high-capacity charging infrastructure, Suburban Buick GMC of Troy is addressing both customer convenience and behind-the-scenes challenges, setting a practical example of how dealerships can adapt to the evolving demands of electric vehicle retail.
