Hyundai Brings Electric Power to Camper Van Life
Hyundai first revealed its Staria multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in March 2021. On January 9, 2026, it pulled the wraps off the new Staria Electric at the Brussels Motor Show. Modern design meets zero emissions in a clever camper that can be configured to accommodate seven, nine, or even eleven passengers.
The luxury seven seat version features second-row captain’s chairs, the nine-seater comes in the standard and premium trims with swiveling seats for easy conversation, and the eleven-seater offers four rows for large families for shuttle use.
Staria’s versatility allows it to be configured for various needs, from a spacious family hauler to an all-purpose camper, even a practical commercial van.
The automaker showcased the camper variant at the CMT Trade Fair in Stuttgart, Germany based on the Staria Electric but adding a full kitchen, shower, and range of approximately 225 miles though it has not yet been tested by the EPA.
The Staria shares the same 800-volt platform as Hyundai’s IONIQ 5, 6, and 9 and can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent on DC Fast Charging in about 20 minutes. It runs a 215-horsepower electric motor in the front and Hyundai added soundproofing materials to keep the ride quiet.
A pop-up roof adds more room for camping adventures as well as a 520W solar panel integrated into the roof. Hyundai tells us it can generate up to 2.5 kWh of electricity per day. Smart glass lets you adjust the transparency of the van’s windows so you can control who sees inside or how much sunshine you want to enjoy. There’s also a 36-liter refrigerator in the kitchen.
But will this futuristic e-camper be available here in the US? Hyundai says the Staria Camper will be under evaluation to find the best places for it to roll out. But chances are probably slim since North America has not been deigned to receive the gasoline powered Staria here in the states and Hyundai says the concept was tailormade for European buyers.
