A Bigger Electric SUV

Introduced in 2023, the Subaru Solterra was a pleasant, fine-driving electric SUV that Subaru fans liked but fell short for people that wanted the latest in EV technology. It looked good and drove nicely, but its range and charging speed weren’t the most competitive. For 2026, Subaru is upgrading the Solterra, as well as introducing its bigger, more rugged brother: the new 2026 Subaru Trailseeker.

The newest addition to Subaru’s U.S. lineup introduces electric propulsion to a familiar shape, one that will be recognizable to fans of the brand’s Outback. Like the Outback, it retains the brand’s well-known Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and is packed with safety features. The name Trailseeker was chosen to highlight the EV SUV’s go-anywhere attitude, which includes 8.3 inches of ground clearance, exceptional off-road capability, and usable passenger and cargo space.

Subaru Trailseeker Capabilities

With standard all-wheel drive, the Trailseeker has two powerful electric motors located on the front and rear axles, making a total of 375 horsepower and offering an impressive towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds. Drivers can switch on the electronic X-mode system to activate snow/dirt and deep snow/mud modes, as well as grip control and downhill assist. It all adds up to the Trailseeker being a ready companion for off- and on-road adventures.

Subaru engineers gave the Trailseeker a unique suspension and tuned the all-wheel-drive system for stability and control on all kinds of surfaces. Acceleration sensors in the front and rear help the Trailseeker adapt to the dynamic load while accelerating, braking, or turning, powering the correct wheels for improved traction and stability.

All Trailseeker models come equipped with Subaru’s suite of EyeSight® driver-assistance technologies, including pre-collision braking, front cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane departure alert, a panoramic-view monitor, emergency stop assist, traffic jam assist, lane change assist, adaptive cruise control, and more.

Trailseeker Range and Charging

Like the 2026 Solterra, which got a big range bump compared to the first-gen model, the Trailseeker has a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which Subaru claims will deliver 260 miles of range from a full charge. Thanks to an onboard preconditioning system, the Trailseeker can ready itself for fast charging in warm or cold temperatures, and a standard Tesla-style NACS charging port offers more on-the-go charging options. In America, that means over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers, making road-tripping a breeze.

While the fast-charging speed on Level 3 chargers of 150 kW isn’t class-leading, that still means the Trailseeker’s battery pack can go from 10- to 80-percent in less than 35 minutes. At home, the Trailseeker can plug into a home Level 2 box, giving you a full tank of electrons and full range every morning.

Interior of a 2026 Subaru Trailseeker

Inside the Subaru Trailseeker

With a larger, longer cargo area and taller roof than the Solterra, Trailseeker gives owners ample space for people and gear – there’s more space for adventure. The generous room is complemented by an open and bright interior design that features a flat floor and lots of rear legroom.

The clean, open cabin is punctuated by a 14-inch touchscreen, the largest ever fitted to a Subaru. It offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A wide center console provides a centralized hub for devices, including dual wireless charging pads, and offers plenty of storage space for personal items.

From the outside, the new Trailseeker looks like an Outback beamed in from the future, fusing a familiar silhouette with cutting-edge details. It is more than six inches longer and nearly an inch taller than the Solterra and has standard raised roof rails, providing greater flexibility. The Trailseeker also shows off a new Subaru light signature with an illuminated logo, redesigned headlamps, a new front bumper design, and 20- or 18-inch wheels.

Pricing and Availability

The all-new 2026 Subaru Trailseeker will go on sale at Subaru dealers nationwide in early 2026. Pricing and detailed specifications will be available closer to the vehicle’s official launch, but we expect it to start in the mid-to-high forties.
