Blink Charging Expands Through Hubject Partnership

Blink Charging of Bowie, Maryland, says it powers wherever life takes you with EV charging stations. It aims to help reduce global climate change by creating innovative products and services.

The company’s mission is to make EV charging more accessible to everyone. Blink recently struck a deal with Hubject as a charge point operator using its interchange eRoaming platform.

Who Is Hubject?

Hubject based in Berlin, Germany, calls itself the largest eRoaming network for borderless electric mobility. It hopes to unify market players into a consolidated eRoaming network for a seamless charging experience everywhere.

The new agreement between Blink Charging and Hubject means that electric mobility service providers and their customers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will be able to access Blink’s EV charging stations through their existing apps.

Blink’s Global Network

Blink Charging’s global network currently has over 90,000 charging ports in service and is hoping to expand to over 25 countries worldwide. Blink uses both Level 2 and Level 3 DC Fast Charging ports and offers a range of services to businesses, property owners, and individual drivers.

What the Deal Means for Drivers

The partnership means that drivers with the Blink Charging app will gain access to charging stations connected through Hubjeck’s eRoaming network of over one million charging ports across 63 countries through its 2,750 partners worldwide.

Hubject expects the new partnerships with Blink Charging will strengthen its North American presence by adding Blink’s network of chargers. Blink hopes that more customers will use them to plug in, thanks to Hubject’s enormous reach.

Executive Reactions

“Our collaboration with Blink marks an important step in expanding our North American intercharge network,” said Trishan Peruma, CEO of Hubject North America. “By integrating Blink’s network into our eRoaming platform, we aim to help reduce barriers that have historically complicated EV charging and to support the continued growth of EV adoption across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.”

Regarding the new partnership, Blink Charging’s president and CEO Mike Battaglia added, “Connecting the Blink Network to Hubject’s platform will allow more drivers to benefit from interoperable charging while traveling.”

The Technology Behind the Partnership

The integration will use the industry-standard OCPI protocol to keep billing and communication between networks secure and reliable. Deployment is planned in phases throughout 2025, with full integration targeted by the end of the year.

OCPI stands for Open Channel Point Interface, a standardized protocol that allows different EV charging networks to communicate with each other to offer drivers access to a much bigger network of chargers.
