EV Range Is Expanding in 2026

Many electric car models will see an increase in range for the 2026 model year including the Lucid Gravity with 450 miles, the Rivian R1S with 410 miles, and the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV with 390 miles of range.

The updated Hyundai Ioniq 5 is poised to offer a significant addition in range, up to 310 miles on a charge, and the BMW iX3 hopes to bring drivers up to 400 miles of range thanks to its 109-kWh battery pack.

The Tesla Model Y is estimated to take you 357 miles, and the Tesla Model X is projected to drive 357 miles on a charge. An all-new Lexus LF-ZC is also coming to dealerships that hopes to double the range of current EVs on the market.

And that’s not all. The Polestar 3 is estimated to bring you 350 miles on a charge, the Chevrolet Blazer EV will take you 334 miles, its Silverado EV pickup has a range of up to an astounding 460 miles, and the Cadillac Lyriq is hoping to squeeze out 326 miles of range.

There are also vehicles that debuted with less than exciting range. One that comes to mind is Toyota’s bZ4X. The nimble crossover does most things very well, but it’s first model years saw a disappointing 252 miles of range for the front-wheel drive XLE trim and 228 miles for the all-wheel drive XLE trim.

Big Improvements for the bZ

For 2026, the bZ4X has simplified its name to just ‘bZ’ and Toyota is working hard to improve this EV with up to 338 horsepower and increased range of up to 314 miles for the front-wheel drive XLE Plus model thanks to a new 74.7-kWh battery. There is also a larger 14-inch touchscreen and an NACS charging port for use with the Tesla Supercharger Network.

The new bZ will be available with front-wheel drive offering 221 horsepower, or all-wheel drive with 338 horses. Both will feature the new 74.7-kWh battery pack. The AWD version is projected to take you from zero to 60mph in just 4.9 seconds.

The bZ will also charge faster (up to 150 kW) on a Level 3 DC Faster charger, taking you from a 10 percent to 80 percent charge in about 30 minutes. Home charging at Level 2 will also be quicker thanks to an onboard 11 kW charger.

With these automakers working to improve range, driving an EV is about to get a whole lot easier.
