Kia Finally Puts a Price on Its Smallest EV

Kia recently announced pricing for the 2027 Kia EV3, with a starting price of $31,385, including a $1,495 destination charge. That makes it Kia's most affordable EV, undercutting the EV6 by more than $8,000. Here's what you need to know.

Affordable EVs for All

The EV3 has been on sale overseas for two years, and its arrival in the U.S. took a bit longer than expected. Kia confirmed the EV3 was finally headed stateside at the New York International Auto Show earlier this past April. Eric Watson, Kia America's vice president of sales operations, called it part of the brand's commitment to making electric mobility accessible to more Americans.

The price fills in one of the last major blanks since the EV3’s U.S. debut, so see the full U.S.-spec EV3 preview, including its packaging, range, and charging hardware

What $31,385 Buys You

The base EV3 trim has an EPA-rated range of 221 miles on a 58.3-kilowatt-hour battery and includes a native NACS port, allowing this entry-level SUV to charge from 10 to 80 percent in 29 minutes at a 350-kilowatt DC fast charger. Unlike the larger EV6 and EV9, which use an 800-volt version of Hyundai Motor Group’s e-GMP architecture, the EV3 runs at 400 volts. That means it won't offer quite the same fast-charging performance. Kia hasn’t provided a specific peak charging power, but it’s likely to be around 150 kW, compared to the nearly 250 kW achievable with the EV6 on a 350-kW charger. According to Kia, the smaller battery variant will charge from 10% to 80% in about 29 minutes, while the optional 81.4-kWh version will take about 31 minutes, both still solid performances for an entry-level EV.

A native NACS port simplifies road-trip charging, but station and adapter compatibility still varies, so see how NACS, CCS, and EV charging adapters work before you hit the road

Despite the EV3’s modest size at just 169.3 inches long, it offers a very roomy back seat that can easily hold two adults (or three if they're slim-shouldered). There’s also a decent amount of cargo space.

It comes standard with a suite of driver-assistance features, including auto-emergency braking with junction-turning detection, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, navigation-based smart cruise control with stop-and-go and curve detection, highway-driving assist, rear occupant alert, driver-attention warning, high-beam assist, and safe-exit warning.

You'll also get 17-inch gloss black and machined finish alloy wheels, LED headlights and daytime running lights, roof rails, cloth seats, 60/40 split-folding and reclining rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, 12.3-inch dual panoramic displays with navigation, a 5-inch climate display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, push-button start, remote start, five USB ports, and a six-speaker audio system.

Climbing the Trim Ladder

The Affordable EV Field Just Got More Crowded

Unlike the similarly priced Chevy Bolt and Nissan Leaf, the EV3 gives you a choice of battery sizes and the option to add all-wheel drive, which is a nice bit of flexibility at this price point. Kia says the EV3 should start showing up at dealerships later this year, so if entry-level EVs around $30,000 are on your radar, this one's worth keeping in mind.
