How can I finance my green car?

You can finance an electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or fuel-efficient vehicle much like any other car. Options can include dealership financing, a bank or credit union, or another auto lender. Compare the annual percentage rate, loan term, down payment, total interest, and any manufacturer or dealer offers before choosing a loan.

GreenCars shoppers can browse available cleaner vehicles through the GreenCars Marketplace. At participating Lithia-owned dealerships, Driveway Finance Corporation is one of the financing sources that may be available. Loan approval, rates, and terms depend on the applicant and transaction.

Does cold weather affect electric cars?

Yes. Cold temperatures can reduce EV driving range and charging performance. Battery chemistry is less efficient when cold, and the vehicle also uses energy to warm the battery and cabin. The size of the range loss varies by vehicle, temperature, speed, trip length, and whether the EV uses a heat pump.

To reduce the impact, precondition the vehicle while it is plugged in, keep tires properly inflated, use seat and steering-wheel heaters when practical, and leave extra range for winter trips. Many modern EVs can also precondition the battery before a fast-charging stop.

What EV components require regular maintenance?

EVs still need routine maintenance even though they eliminate many engine-related services. The items to watch most often include tires and tire pressure, brakes and brake fluid as specified, cabin air filters, wipers and washer fluid, steering and suspension, the 12-volt battery, and any battery or power-electronics coolant service required by the manufacturer.

Tire wear can be faster on some EVs because of vehicle weight, torque, tire choice, and driving style, but it is not universal. Regenerative braking often reduces brake-pad wear, although the friction brakes still need inspection and can be affected by corrosion when used less frequently. Always follow the maintenance schedule for the specific vehicle.
